Hello ISVD members-

I am a rising 3rd year dermatology resident with Dermatology for Animals in Arizona and this post is regarding my original residency research on erythema multiforme in ferrets. I am seeking your expert opinion on one of the cases, a 15-week-old ferret, that had strong positive immunoreactivity for Distemper virus antigen. Histopathology for this ferret was classic for EM and had no other features consistent with Distemper virus. Additionally, there were no viral inclusions at the sites of cutaneous EM lesions. Could this represent a type of viral-induced EM?

Thank you kindly for your thoughts!

Sincerely,

Erica Hess, DVM
